Weekly Sanchez Report: Perhaps now, he can rest in peace

Another week, another tough game for Mark Sanchez. Monday's match-up was one of his worst this season, as the poor boy threw four interceptions and saw his team lose to the now 5-9 Titans. The Jets also saw their playoff hopes go dashing through the snow.

potatoes and gildans

Here we go, the time we've all been waiting for. Bowl games almost everyday. Of course we have to wade through a bunch of crap first, but who cares. It's still college football! And honestly these should be pretty good, close games.

Weekly Sanchez Report

A week after returning from the dead, Sanchez got a win over the hapless Jaguars. While his numbers were nothing impressive Ghost Sanchez didn't turn the ball over which has been his worst crime against humanity to date.

weekend review #15 navy wins, you sunk my te'o ship!

I was wrong about it being high scoring but Navy ended up getting the win after a costly turnover by Army with victory in sight. As far as stats go it was pretty much what you'd expect. Army quarterback Trent Steelman was 4/5 for 48 yards while he rushed for 96 yards and a touchdown. Keenan Reynolds on the other hand threw for a huge 130 yards and rushed for a touchdown. Not a bad outing for either QB. Rushing defense seemed to play a big roll in the game as both teams were held for less than usual.

The other big thing of the day was Johnny Manziel winning the Heisman. I'm not necesarily upset about it but I do think Manti Te'o was more deserving  For a defensive player to have as big of an impact as Te'o did all year can't be overlooked. As much as possible in football I think you could argue that he's the biggest factor in Notre Dame being undefeated and about to play in the NCG. Heisman voters were wowed by Manziel's gaudy numbers and that one game against Alabama and let that be more of a factor than what Te'o did all year.

In many respects the race seemed very similar to the AL MVP award in baseball this year. You had one guy who had the raw numbers while you had another guy who had more of an intangible effect on his team. At least in baseball they got it right.

I'm probably also biased because with Manziel winning it already his freshman year there's a chance he could win it again and as an Ohio State fan I want that guy to only be Archie Griffin.

BREAKING MARK NEWS: Back from the dead, now a ghost of some kind

Breaking news today as Mark is still officially the starter despite his appalling performance last weekend. Jets coach and Mark BFF Rex Ryan made the call today and will issue a press conference soon. This news has resurrected Mark and his feelings back from the dead, at least for the time being. Will Mark be able to handle the boos that will inevitably rain down on him? Luckily, as a ghost, the boos should pass right through him. Stay tuned!

College Football coaching updates

After the huge news that Arkansas hired Brett Bielema away from Wisconsin it's time to update the current coaching landscape. Here's a handy gadget from SB Nation that lists all the current fillings and vacancies:

Weekly Sanchez Report: He died for our sins

It finally happened. 'Ol Mark was benched today after throwing for 90 some yards and throwing three interceptions. In his place Greg McElroy took over since Tim Tebow is injured. McElroy put the only points on the board for Jets, which happened to be just enough as they won 7-6 keeping their extremely small play off hopes alive

Rajon Rondo's Assist Streak Has Ended

Talking about stupidity here. Imagine yourself in Rondo's shoes. You are a talented motherfucker with the so-called "high" basketball IQ. However, you have a short temper and worry about your historic streak (surpassing Magic Johnson's record of most games with 10+assist streak) while playing out there every night (even the coach, Doc Rivers let you play while the game is already over just to keep your streak alive). Then suddenly, you get in a fight one night and BAMNN! Ejected from the game. Great way to end your streak isn't it? Smart enough on court, but not smart enough to not get into a pointless/stupid violent incident? If you've watched carefully, it was not like Gerald Wallace/Chris Humphrey was directly attacking at Rajon Rondo. Swallow your pride for a moment....talking about selfish and let-down here....

Oh well, at least ma nigg doesn't have to worry about himself every night from now on.  Play "for the team" , not "for the streak" please....

Doc Rivers is not impressed....

Tigers Offseason Part One

The 2012 Tigers repeated what they did in 2006: enter the World Series as the overwhelming favorite and still lose the World Series. Instead of thinking that Jim Leyland is the problem, the Tigers have decided to spend even more money to win the World Series in 2013. If spending exorbitant amounts of money led to a World Series, the Miami Marlins would have won the title this year, not the San Francisco Giants. The Tigers have already made some offseason moves and there are still plenty of rumors out there about what they could do.

QQ Off-Season blues kick in

It just sunk in that college football season is effectively over for me, and with 279 days to go for the next game I suddenly find myself with a lot of free time. Of course I'll talk about the remaining games of the season but I'm not sure yet what I'll post about once college football is officially over.

CFB weekend preview #13

I'm guest posting the weekend preview this week, so bear with me.*

#1 Notre Dame at USC

All Notre Dame has to do to go to the BCS title game is win Saturday. While a night game on the road might trip up some teams, the Irish have proven themselves pretty tough this season. USC's out to somewhat redeem its craptacular season, so you can bet it'll be bringing it all to the field. Unfortunately, the Trojans will be playing without their starter QB Barkley, so I'm gonna have to give this to Notre Dame.

Weekly Sanchez Report

I knew I shouldn't have eaten that pie before the game.

They say the suicide rate spikes during the holidays, so I think we all need to keep an extra eye on Mark this week. The Patriots carved up the Jets during their 49-19 Thanksgiving Day win. "Abysmal" doesn't quite describe it for the Jets. Three touchdowns in 52 seconds? I think that sums it up best. Fans were even chanting for Tebow to get in the game before the half (Little Timmy was reported to have a couple fractured ribs, though). Poor Mark.

Weekly Sanchez report

After a dismal performance last week. Mark didn't turn over the ball at all this time and even had a touchdown. An all around good performance for the little guy.

cfb weekend preview #12 - 2NE1 edition

This week I try to answer that age old question: How does one tie in college football with kpop?

take that nerds: Miggy wins AL MVP

"mah stats ;_;"

In the end it wasn't even close. Miguel Carbonera swept the MVP votes for the American League by a landslide. No, I don't really follow baseball as most people know, but this was an interesting topic for me because of the conflict between the so called "eye-test" and math nerds who follow Sabermetrics.

Football's Larger Than Life Coaches - Deuce: Chapter 2: Mark Mangino

Life, Legend, Jowels

If you were to look up larger-than-life in the dictionary you would inevitably find a picture of Mark Mangino.  And after all, that's why we're here, to pay tribute to these national treasures.

Weekly Sanchez Report

Fuck it, I'm not sure there's even room for anything other than Suicide Watch Mark these days. Sanchez went 9/22 for no TDs and an INT. Yep.

CFB weekend preview #11

#11 Oregon State at #14 Stanford

This one will probably not be a pretty game of football. Stanford is favored by 4 1/2 in this one. I think Stanford will cover and then some. Stanford is at home and is 21 in total defense while Oregon State doesn't really do anything particularly well on offense ranking 105 in rushing and 40th in passing. Stanford wins 21-10.

Weekend Review #10: the worst day of my life

CFB weekend preview #10

#1 Alabama at #5 LSU

In the game of the century pt. 3 Alabama goes to Death Valley currently being favored by 8. First let's look at some of these juggernauts Alabama has had to get through to get to where they are today:

Giants Win World Series

Tigers lose! Tigers lose! Tigers lose!

Anyone get the reference?

Da fuq? Did anyone in the entire world see this happening? A sweep? You kidding me? How much money would you have made if you bet on the Giants sweeping at the beginning?

Weekly Sanchez Report

I don't really like this one is all Mark's fault. When you're asked to throw it 54 times, unless you're actually... Good, you'll probably have a bad game.

CFB Weekend Preview #9

#2 Florida vs. #10 Georgia

Florida is currently favored by 6 1/2 which honestly seems a bit high to me. Georgia has a vibe around it which doesn't seem to fit the fact they only have one ugly loss to South Carolina. Earlier, Shawn Willams, a safety for Georgia called out the rest of the defense claiming they were "soft," so that tells you they don't feel like they've lived up to expectations. Clearly this is always a special game for both teams but I feel like Georgia is entering this game with special incentive to play well. If they win, the SEC East will get a lot more interesting and with their remaining schedule they could easily go 11-1 and be right back where they wanted to be at the beginning of the year.

That being said I think Florida will win. Florida is ranked 25th in rushing offense, not exactly impressive but Georgia is ranked 72nd in rushing defense. And what has Florida done all season long? Pounded the ball on the ground. With everything considered this will still be an ugly, tight game with Florida coming out on top... So I guess in the end I'd take Florida to cover but just barely.

The coach at Wyoming is mad

Move over Mike Gundy, there's a new standard by which post game tirades will be measured. Unfortunately the video has been taken off Youtube and this is the only place I could still find it.

World Series Preview

I guess I should preface this by saying I don't follow a baseball team, don't pay attention to the regular season at all, and really had no clue what baseball was until I just looked it up on Wikipedia. My previous knowledge of baseball mostly consisted of thinking that getting to third base meant scoring with a chick... I guess it still does but...

Charlie Weiss: An in depth look at football's larger than life coaches

Our first look at one of football's larger than life coaches begins with Charlie Weiss. Perhaps best known for leading Notre Dame to a couple BCS bowls before leaving for the Kansas City Chiefs for a year, then offensive coordinator at Florida for a year, and now, finally at Kansas; Weiss has always been regarded as an offensive guru, even making Matt Cassel look good for a year.

Week 8 in review: Yeah, that happened

What a weekend!

From the gospel according to Guiton

After these things the Boilermakers tested the Buckeyes and said to them “Buckeyes!” And they said, “Here we are.” They said, “Take your son, your only Braxton Miller, whom you love, and go to the Ohio Medical Center, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the gurneys of which I shall tell you.” So the Buckeyes rose early in the morning, arrived at Ohio Stadium, and took two of their young receivers, and their son Kenny Guiton. And he made the two point conversion and the touchdown in OT and went to the place of which God had told him...

There but by the grace of God go the Purdue Boilermakers.

CFB Weekend Preview #8

#7 South Carolina at #2 Florida

The spread in this one seems a little off to me. Florida only being favored 3 1/2 at home seems a bit small. Perhaps someone thinks that with SC coming off a close defeat at LSU; that they will be extra fired up or something. However, I took Florida for the upset when LSU came to the swamp and I *ahem* now believe LSU is a better team than SC so I'm taking Florida and the points.

Look for Florida to keep pounding away at SC with the running game making up for the year when Meyer was still at Florida and every Gator fan was at home screaming at the TV for him to run Gilleslee. I expect a low scoring affair.

Monday, October 15, 2012

Meyer holds meeting with OSU D... With sexy results?

When people think about Ohio State they usually think first about tattoos, then getting owned by the SEC, then sweater vests, and then a stout defense... In no particular order. This year however OSU has been getting torched on D to the tune of 38 to Nebraska and then 49 to Indiana... INDIANA?!?

Weekly Sanchez report

This week the Jets walloped the Colts with Sanchez making over 50% completions and throwing for 2 TDs. Even if they were mostly helped out by their running game the computer determined Mark's sensitive feelings to be in tact this week.

CFB Weekend Preview #7

#15 Texas vs. #13 Oklahoma

The annual Red River Shootout take place this weekend with Oklahoma currently favored by 3 1/2 points. Frankly, I'm just not buying Oklahoma at all. Landry Jones, the OK QB has unperformed consistently this season, while David Ash for Texas has impressed. Unless Oklahoma can get their running game going I don't give them any chance. I expect a rather low scoring affair, think > 60. And If I was a betting man I would take Texas outright for the upset.

The sensitive feelings of Mark Sanchez

Lately the New York Jets have been not so much been in the business of winning football games but more in the business of protecting Mark Sanchez's sensitive feelings.

Week 6 in Review: A Big 10 team scores over 60. ACC is shit

Let's get this out of the way, ignoring my stupid score predictions I made all the picks... OK I feel better now.

CFB Weekend Preview #6

#4 LSU at #10 Florida

I get the feeling that everyone's most anticipated game this week will be something more akin to "Big 10" style football: low scores and strong defensive performances. These are two teams who seem to be heading in opposite directions as the season progresses. To that extent, I think playing in The Swamp against a fired up Gators team lead by a surprisingly effective Jeff Driskel all points to a Gators "upset." (Though it hardly seems like an upset at this point as most people have the Gators winning)

LSU - 17, Florida - 24

Do players ever want their teams to lose?

edit: thanks a lot Arizona you just fucked up my first article

As we enter the second quarter of NFL football there are three teams (as of this writing, Arizona/St. Louis is kicking off right now) that remain unbeaten. Houston, Arizona, and Atlanta. While most people agree that Houston is the best team in the NFL, I've never seen more people doubt an unbeaten team as they do Arizona, mostly because of their unresolved quarterback situation.

Yet Another Sports Blog

This will just be a simple blog for me to write down my uneducated thoughts about sports, mostly. Yes, it will mostly be regurgitated talking points from "professionals", but I can offer one thing they can't on ESPN... Very poorly made MS Paint photoshops...

(Would those even be called photoshops? Paints? I'll look into it.)
