CFB Weekend Preview #8

#7 South Carolina at #2 Florida

The spread in this one seems a little off to me. Florida only being favored 3 1/2 at home seems a bit small. Perhaps someone thinks that with SC coming off a close defeat at LSU; that they will be extra fired up or something. However, I took Florida for the upset when LSU came to the swamp and I *ahem* now believe LSU is a better team than SC so I'm taking Florida and the points.

Look for Florida to keep pounding away at SC with the running game making up for the year when Meyer was still at Florida and every Gator fan was at home screaming at the TV for him to run Gilleslee. I expect a low scoring affair.

#4 Kansas State at #13 West Virginia

After the turd West Virginia laid at Texas Tech last week I'm sure they're looking to rebound in a big way this weekend with the Wildcats coming to town. This is an interesting battle of Heisman hopefuls with Collin Klein probably in the lead after said turd was laid by the Geno Smith Mountaineers. The line in this opened with WV favored by 3 and has since increased to 4 1/2.

I'm inclined to go Kansas State in this one. I haven't personally seen too many Wildcat's games but nothing I've heard leads me to believe WV is capable of the upset with their complete lack of defense, despite being at home. Remember Kansas State has already gone to Oklahoma and won. Kansas State is ranked 11th in the rushing attack while West Virginia's rushing defense is ranked between such notable power houses as Temple and Bowling Green. Still with West Virginia's vaunted (literally) passing attack I expect this to be a high scoring game with KSU ultimately coming out on top.

#3 Oregon at Arizona State

Another interesting line. This one opened with Oregon favored by 12 1/2 and has since closed to 8 1/2. The really glaring part about Arizona State for me is that loss to Colorado Missouri. That being said this is still intriguing. Arizona State is still a good team despite that awful blemish. It's possible for someone to be really hot despite having some kind of abnormal growth protruding from the back of their head.

This will be Oregon's first true test of the season as almost all their previous games up this point have been against teams that end in 'state' or 'tech' (and not any of the ones you've heard of.) However, Chip Kelly has proven he doesn't mess around since the Ducks blanked #22 Arizona a couple weeks ago.

Well this game kicks off in less than an hour so I guess I need to make a pick. Fuck it, I'm going to pick ASU for the major upset. They're at home, they need to make a statement, etc. etc. If I'm right I'll look like a genius and if I'm wrong I'll only look stupid to the two or three people who read this blog.

Colorado at #10 USC

:[... OK I'm really only putting this here to take up space before my Ohio State pick. USC is favored by 40 and you need to ask if you should take the points or not you probably don't know how to football.

My totally biased and completely non-objective look at Purdue at Ohio State

With the release of the BCS polls I guess we're not going by the AP rankings, hence why OSU is suddenly not ranked. (OSU is #7 in case your curious) I don't need to tell you this since you are undoubtedly up to date on Ohio State history but you no doubt know Purdue has given OSU fits in the past. Also, since OSU is unable to compete in any post season Purdue is now one of the favorites to win the Leaders Division of the Big 10.

Ohio State ranks 8th in the nation in rushing yards while, if I could borrow a phrase I used earlier, Purdue's rushing defense is ranked along with such dynamic teams as South Miss (terrible) and Northern Illinois (good). That being said Ohio Stadium has been an impenetrable fortress this year for opposing teams, I mean that in the sense they haven't lost their yet, not that they haven't allowed points, lol.

Braxton Miller will gash the Boilermaker defense and occasionally make some huge plays through the air, his typical MO this season. The line is currently at 18 1/2 which actually seems a bit high to me. I predict OSU to win but by a more modest 10 points.

    1. Early-slate ellipses:

Ohio State? (Forehead smack.) Wake up, or you're getting another shower speech, this time with Rough Riders ... At least an OSU D-lineman made a tackle with his butt, so there's something of note ...

      Clemson possibly clemsoning ...

An unranked Oklahoma State neck-and-neck to a ranked Iowa State at home? How is any part of that sentence possible? ...

aTm is like a squirrel hoarding acorns for the winter. The Aggies have to save up points to survive the inevitable second-half collapse ...
