Do players ever want their teams to lose?

edit: thanks a lot Arizona you just fucked up my first article

As we enter the second quarter of NFL football there are three teams (as of this writing, Arizona/St. Louis is kicking off right now) that remain unbeaten. Houston, Arizona, and Atlanta. While most people agree that Houston is the best team in the NFL, I've never seen more people doubt an unbeaten team as they do Arizona, mostly because of their unresolved quarterback situation.

I imagine it must be a real conundrum for Arizona head coach, Ken Wisenhunt, who has remained committed to their original QB going into the season, John Skelton. So the question is what to do once Skelton comes off injury. Do you play Skelton or follow the motto, "Don't fix what ain't broken".

What really intrigues me about this whole thing is how does Skelton feel about the whole situation. I'm sure he's happy that his team is winning but at the same time he should be the starter, and the more Kolb wins the more likely, you'd think at least, that he may get the permanent starting roll. Obviously Skelton would never say it out loud but does a part of him want his team... To lose?

It's really similar to the situation we see happening in New Orleans. Sean Payton is right now the happiest win-less head coach in the NFL. But what's going through his mind right now? Besides how much more money he's going to ask for. I'm sure he's upset with how his team is garbage at the moment, but is a small part of him ecstatic to see how much value he has with the Saints?

  1. The Cowboys could use Skelton if Arizona wants to trade him. I'm getting tired of Tony Homo throwing 5 INTs.
